Clare Island

Clare Island lies off the west coast of Ireland at the entrance to Clew Bay. The largest of the Mayo offshore Islands. This is the second adventure base which Adventure Islands operates from and offers its guests, some of the best diving on the west coast of Ireland.

Kayaking, windsurfing, power boat rides, deep sea fishing and yacht sailing excursions along with Island walking, biking and horse riding treks. We have an excellent relationship with the Islanders and enjoy a close partnership with the islands hotel and various guests houses where we book our Adventure Islands guests into and make sure all your needs are catered for.

Clare Island

Clare Island is the largest of the 365 islands of Clew Bay, sitting just three miles from the nearest harbour at Roonagh point. The Island is approximately five miles long and three miles wide and her silhouette is dominated by the giant hump of Knockmor at 461metres on her western edge and the more gently sloping Knocknaveen to her centre.

The Adventure Island team do regular daily runs from our Collanmore Island base to our Clare Island Base and journey on our Adventure Islands Ribs is about 40 minutes. We also do regular Yacht cruises on our 54ft Yacht "Explorer" to and from both our Island bases, which takes a leisurely 3 hours.

With a varied terrain: spectacular cliffs with large numbers of nesting sea birds and a rich 'inland' topography of hills and bogs and small pockets of woodland, making it ideal for hill-walking.

The island lies roughly four miles off the nearest mainland point and the ferry crossing takes approximately 20 minutes. The current permanent population of 130 increases substantially during the summer when there is a steady tourist season. The island has a number of B&B's, one hotel with a bar, a Community Centre and one shop which is also the post office.
